A few weeks ago, I used the word ‘purge’ with a client. Her reaction – and I may not have noticed if I hadn’t sensed some inner conflict going on – was illuminating. It was a combination of a lip curl, a nose wrinkle and an arm crossing.

When I first start working with an organizing client, we always have an an initial consult. It usually takes about an hour. This is where I evaluate the space or situation, meet with the client to determine goals, get to know them and how they think, create a plan, etc.

A few months ago, I got really irritated with my husband. He put something in the microwave to heat up and then just, well, stood there. Waiting for it. I just wanted to say, ‘you know, it’s not going
anywhere and while you are waiting, why not fill the dog dish?’
